Black Pot

Ingot Objects

£1,250.00

Description

‘My intention with these larger pieces was for the forms to be a way to show the varied qualities and surfaces of different glazes,’ explains Jonathan. ‘The surface on the Black Pot is not a glaze at all, but simply iron oxide, loosely brushed onto the clay, which fluxes in the firing to give a metallic sheen. While results from the kiln can be learned to a degree through repetition and study, these reactions continue to defy predictions. In essence, I attempt to set up simple circumstances and then hand it over to the materials to work their magic.’

Diameter 44cm, height 42cm.
