Description

‘These are cast from a faithful copy I made of an original Alexander 'Greek' Thomson plaster ceiling rosette from 264 Darnley Street, Glasgow,’ James says. ‘It's a detail that appears across his work in the city, from the ceilings of Holmwood House to Thomson's own house at Moray Terrace. These 'Greek' knobs illustrate that shift, moving from an architectural decorative motif to become a utilitarian coat hook, or a grand handle to elevate a humble cupboard door. I enjoy exploring how function can bring architectural fragments to life in exciting new ways.’

Small: Diameter 8.5cm, height 4.5cm.

Large: Diameter 9cm, height 5cm.
