Dysart Sycamore Bowl

Jonnie Crawford

£1,100.00

Description

In 2018, a huge veteran sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus) was felled in the grounds of Dysart Carmelite Monastery in Fife. As Jonnie recalls: ‘The stem measured almost 5-feet diameter at the base, the timber having uncharacteristic variations in colour due to significant age and colonisation by and decay at the hands of Dryad's Saddle fungus, via a large old wound. We diced up the main stem into blocks barely lift-able by two people; the practical challenge of getting the wood out through a narrow gate in the perimeter wall being balanced with the opportunity of preserving the colossal scale in a series of future bowls.’

Height 20.2cm , diameter 54cm.
