Description

While many people channelled their pandemic anxiety into bread dough, glass artist Juli Bolaños-Durman spent her lockdown creating a series of works using found and donated pieces of glass from around the community in Leith, where Juli has her workshop. A neighbour to Bard (based next door in Custom Lane) the stasis of lockdown opened Juli’s eyes to a wealth of materials seeking new purpose. She resurrected them using red copper wire from building work taking place at Custom Lane. As with all Juli’s work, the designer ascribes her creations with a compelling social message: “These pieces represent the support systems around each of us, upon which we rely to feel rooted and inspired in daily life,” she says. “The connections represent a visceral bond between the maker, material and locality.”
