Embroidered Commonwealth Stool

Laura Lees

£865.00

Description

A neighbour and devotee of both the architecture and the watery depths of Edinburgh’s magnificent Royal Commonwealth Pool by RMJM, Laura Lees took it upon herself to capture a favourite view from within, and upholster it upon a three-legged stool. The sploshy vista is freehand machine embroidered with uncanny skill. Such is the painterly effect of Laura’s mastery, she has recreated the froth of a splash of a diver – there is such depth of detail here, it’s easy to get sucked-in. Some may feel such a work of art is far too good to sit on, but herein lies Laura’s brilliance. The stool itself, designed by Uncommon Projects, is a wonderfully robust piece of furniture – it is definitely designed to be used. And, as Laura herself says, her own embroidered upholstery makes for a far sturdier seat cushion than most other materials.

Total height 47cm
