Otherlands - Table 03
Oliver Spendley£11,500.00
Description
The third in our series of Otherlands tables from Oliver Spendley builds on the language of its older brethren. A Scottish spalted elm surface rests securely on three points: a hunk of Lewisian Gneiss, and two rounded river stones, supported on carved triangular elm bases. The elm surface is from a single board that had warped in time. By splitting the board, Oliver was able to flatten both pieces, and then re-join them using Gneiss butterflies. The live edges of the surface have been gouged by Oliver, creating a soft, rippling effect that could be made by hand or nature. These intuitively led, carefully executed details combine to create a quietly magnificent low table that has a feeling and an energy all of its own.
